Common questions
Is GFS really free?
Yes. GFS is open source under the MIT license, free forever. Run it locally with Docker, use the full CLI, and integrate with AI agents via the built-in MCP server. No account or credit card needed.
What's the difference between Open Source and BYOC?
GFS open source runs locally on your machine. BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud) deploys the Guepard engine on your cloud infrastructure, giving you instant production clones, CI/CD integration, team collaboration, and PII masking across your whole engineering team.
What does BYOC mean exactly?
Bring Your Own Cloud. We deploy Guepard on your AWS, GCP, or Azure account. Your data stays in your infrastructure. We manage the engine, you control the environment.
When should I go Enterprise over BYOC?
Enterprise is for teams that need self-hosting on their own infrastructure (not just their cloud account), SSO/SAML, advanced RBAC, audit trails, VPC peering, and a dedicated account engineer. If your security team needs to approve the deployment, you likely need Enterprise.
What databases are supported?
GFS supports PostgreSQL 13–18 and MySQL 8.0–8.1. The BYOC and Enterprise plans support the same databases with production cloning capabilities.
How do production clones work?
Guepard uses copy-on-write technology to create instant clones of your production database. A 1TB database clones in under 6 seconds and uses 0 MB of additional storage until changes are made. Only deltas are stored.
Can I start with Open Source and upgrade later?
Yes. Most teams start with GFS locally, then upgrade to BYOC when they need production clones and team-wide environments. The CLI commands stay the same. The upgrade is seamless.
